The Govt. College of Teacher Education (CTE), Tezpur, is a premier teacher education institution preparing resourceful teachers for the country. It is located in Mazgaon, near Nikamul Xatra, at Tezpur, which lies on the north bank of the mighty Brahmaputra. Tezpur is regarded as the cultural hub of Assam. It also has a rich history. The institute was established on the 6^th of September, 1977, in the premises of Tezpur Academy and was then known as Teachers’ Training College. Subsequently, in December 1984, the institute was shifted to its present site at Mazgaon, near Nikamul Xatra. The institute was taken over by the government on the 27^th of February, 1998, and was upgraded to the status of CTE. Hence, the nomenclature of the institution was modified to Govt. College of Teacher Education (CTE), Tezpur.

The institute is affiliated to Gauhati University and is recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). At present, it runs two parallel courses – B.Ed. with an intake capacity of 100 students (two units), and D.El.Ed. with an intake capacity of 50 students. The duration of both the courses is of two years. The institute holds all its stakeholders in high esteem as it is because of their co-operation, perseverance and dedication that the institute is able to keep its flag flying high.
